I am seriously thinking about getting an android phone by Google. I looked and it is not available in stores yet, but asap it hits the shelves I will be picking up one of these latest wonders from HTC codenamed Magic, running the amazing open source mobile os named android. Many of my friends have no idea what an android phone is, but that is an other great reason to be the first one to own one. Jaws will drop when they see this lightning fast operating system outperform their crappy Nokia, or Samsung phones! I can’t wait to show the boys what a real gadget is like. I program as a hobby so I will be sure to download the android development kit that contains a debugger that will allow me to create applications on my pc, and emulate the google android to try out my new software right there on my pc in a real work environment. The android phone is going to be awesome with its huge vibrant screen and built in trackball like navigation mouse. I always liked having a trackball on my computer it makes precision browsing possible, but now that feature will be available on a phone too! If you are thinking about getting an android, trust me it will be worth it to make your next phone, an android phone!

android software

Google’s Android firmware for mobile phones is open sourced, and developers around the world are creating android software by the masses. The benefit of running custom android software on your phone is that you can set it up exactly how you want, and run only the programs you need! No more wasted memory on useless background processes that your phone operator installs and you cannot ever remove. Android is new, so the free android software available is still small but nevertheless the most used applications a typical end user needs are already out and available for download. It is very easy to install android software on your phone, just download the program you wish then connect your phone using blue tooth or the usb cable to your computer and establish a connection. After drag and drop the file to the hard drive on your phone, and from your HTC Magic’s menu double click on the software and follow in screen instructions to install the android software.

The Android Software Developers Kit (or SDK for short) has a built in android emulator for mobile devices. If you didn’t know what an android emulator is it is a small portable software that runs on your Windows PC without the need for an actual mobile device. It is deal if you wish to develop, or test out new software you are trying to design or port to the new Google android platform. The android emulator that comes part of the SDK package mimics all the features and typical hardware settings on a mobile phone giving you a developer environment that is real. The control keys found in the Android Software can be virtually controlled by your keyboard and mouse. It has a built in interface to help you model and test your software by invoking other apps, accessing network, playing audio and video files and more. Debug capabilities are also built into the android emulator so you can read kernel errors, and other important log files to bug track the errors. The emulator is a QEMU based application that gives you a virtual ARM mobile device right on your PC platform. You can fully customize the emulator to re-create specific phone models right on your computer.

Google Android

Google Android is the latest craze hitting us from the future!   I remember, growing up as a child I would always dream about what the future will be like,    every day we live through new technical advances and here we are at an other new milestone!  Google recently unveiled their new mobile phone platform named Android. Google Android is based on the Linux Kernel that was developed by Linus Torvalds, and enjoys popular reviews by many open source software advocates around the globe. Google Android was a joint venture project between Google and the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 48 telecommunication, software and hardware companies dedicated to furthering the open source market for mobile platforms. The first early prototype that had Google Android running was unveiled at Mobile World Congress on February 12th 2008 using the ARM architecture processor, a later prototype with the 528mhz Qualcomm processors and Synaptics touchscreen was also shown at the Google IO conferece on May 28th, 2008. The first ever production version was the HTC Dream, marketed by T-Mobile as G1 came to the USA on October 22nd, 2008. It is now also available throughout Europe! Because it is open source platform, unlike the iphone anyone can write applications for it, simply by getting a copy of the Android Software Developers Kit, it includes debuggers, librarites, and a handset emulator among many things.
