Android is an Operating system that has been acquired by Google. This software is the main platform for the smartphone that Google is going to launched.
Generally smartphones cater to people who don’t have time to sit in the front of the computer to check their mail. So Goggle has introduced a new smartphone. This phone caters to the working executives and people who constantly travel and prefer not carrying their laptop.
The smart phone that is launched by Google has several benefits and a very few drawbacks. Some of the main benefits of this smartphone is that it has a very fast browser. This helps the user to check his mail or jus browse through the internet at 3G speed. This smartphone comes with a heavy storage capacity thereby allowing the user to download and store data on the phone. The phone is enabled with media support. This allows the user to view pictures and listen to music over the phone. The interface is a java interface which makes this software very user-friendly. This smartphone has a very large display giving the phone a desktop like feeling. The phone is semi touch in function which means the phone is provided wit a keypad as well as a touch screen for certain applications. Some of the major drawbacks in this smartphone are that, it is too bulky and quite irritating to carry it around. If this is going to be the first smartphone for a person then he is in for a ride of his lifetime, generally these phones take a lot of time getting used to. This smartphone is provided with a camera which has very poor clarity.
But the advantages are more overwhelming than the disadvantages. So in conclusion Google has done justice to its new smartphone.
The first step any company takes before releasing its product is, it first analysis its customers. Once its customers have been identified the pricing is decided. And several other parameters are considered. After all these procedures are complete, then the product is ready to be released.
The smartphone released by Google in the year 2008. This phone comes under the PDA division of mobile phones. Android, the mobile platform under development by Google has been making rapid strides in its development stage. One of the primary aspects of the Android platform has been to make it as open source as possible. It has been Google’s vision to develop a firmware for mobile phones that would defy convention and be capable of being modified to a user’s necessity.
Google decided to come up with applications that would cater to every type of user, and in their attempt, they introduced a program called the Android Developer Challenge (ADC) where in the motive was to allow freelance software developers from different parts of the country to take part in designing applications for the Android platform. The competition began last year and in the first stage from the numerous participants, 50 applications were chosen for their innovative efforts. A large team of judges from different companies formed the jury for the first round of the challenge. The latest update from the android team has been that in the corresponding round, selected applicants have been chosen from the previous 50 and a team of seven judges from top companies have handpicked the best and decided who would deserve the $275,000 and the $100,000 rewards. Immense care had been put into the entire selection process, where 100 plus laptops were shipped in one day, all of them being identical in configuration, so that the judges would have a fair opinion of the application and avoid false judgment just because their laptop was not running the application properly. Special methods like a Python program were adopted in order to acquire data from different parts of the world, and also reduce human error.
The Google team has spent considerable amount of resources in order to make the process as fair as possible, and negating human error. The Android platform is due for release next year and the developer challenge program has only helped to steer the Android team from Google in the right direction.
The Google Android Phone launches tomorrow in the US. It is priced at around £100 and will be launched on the T-Mobile network. This is going to be great, I can’t wait to get my hands on the android phone. There is no news on when the phone will be available in the UK but as soon as there is news I will let you know. Google’s acquisition of Android Inc sparked off rumors regarding Google’s entry into the field of mobile phones as a standalone manufacturer. But the consortium of mobile phone operators and companies under the Open Handset Alliance which included Google revealed that they were developing a new platform for future mobile phones to be based on and not a phone in itself. The chief issue which cropped up regularly was why they were doing such a task and what the need for a new open source platform was.
Some of the chief issues which the Android team wished to address were the ability of an application to be modified depending on user requirements. Addressing the demands of third party applications was also a major criterion, considering the case of the Apple Iphone, which gives no lee-way to third party software and also similar cases found in different mobile phone manufacturers, which simply refused to allow third party applications to be used in the intended manner. This issue has been taken care of as all of the android applications get similar treatment under the new Android platform. Another issue which Google sought to make amends is the development of software to be carried out in a platform which would be wide spread amongst the developer community. They hit the nail on the head when they chose to distribute the Android platform using Apache Software License (ASL) version 2. This is a platform that would be ideal for open source application development as it is most conducive to such a scenario. What the ASL does is give an opportunity to mobile phone manufacturers to develop their own android applications and release them, thereby enabling higher marketability.
Google have formed the team and have allocated the resources to make the Android platform take mobile phone communication to the next level. It is only a matter of time before Android is unveiled to the world and a judgment given.
Google decided that when it was time to start work on the new Android Platform they needed technical expertise from various mobile operators and handset manufacturers, if they were to go ahead and be successful with the introduction of a brand new platform. The Open Handset alliance was formed involving some 30 leading technology and mobile companies from around the world. Each one chosen for its strength in particular fields. The Alliance has recently made headlines when it announced that it will be releasing phones based on the newly developed Android platform in the second half of 2008.
The developers of this platform are chiefly engineers from Android Inc. which Google acquired a year ago. With collaborations with some leading chipset manufacturers like Intel, graphics giant NVIDIA and several of the world’s leading mobile operators like T-mobile, Telefonica and Sprint, Google has ensured that the Android will have no problem at all marketing wise. The Alliance also extends to commercialization companies like Wind River, Noser Engineering etc. What all this means is that Google’s Android has been developed by some of the best minds in the business. Most importantly tie ups with handset manufacturers like HTC Corporation, a technology driven smart phone manufacturer whose reliability based approach will definitely find supporters, Samsung Electronics, the Korean electronics giant whose expertise in the area of mobile phones is well known and of course Motorola Inc, one of the world’s leading handset manufacturers, keen on giving its line up a fresh look and also providing connectivity solutions. The key idea has always been to keep the innovation out in the open and allow the platform to be shaped based on individual needs.
The Open handset alliance and all its developers have been one of the chief reasons why the Android platform has been hitting all the right notes. The credibility of the companies in the Alliance itself would be a booster for the capabilities of the Android platform.

Eclipse is a software platform comprising extensible application frameworks, tools and a runtime library for software development and management. It is written primarily in Java to provide software developers and administrators an integrated development environment (IDE).
The initial code base originated from Visual Age. In its default form it is meant for Java developers, consisting of the Java Development Tools (JDT). Users can extend its capabilities by installing plugins written for the Eclipse software framework, such as development toolkits for other programming languages, and can write and contribute their own plug-in modules. Language packs provide translations into over a dozen natural languages.
the advantage of developing an android application with an eclipse software is that everything in an Eclipse plug-in. This means that every plug-in developed integrates with Eclipse in exactly the same way as other is a plug-in. This means that every plug-in developed integrates with Eclipse in exactly the same way as other plugins; in this respect, all features are created in an eclipse is a plug-in which facilitates seamless running.
Eclipse employs plug-ins in order to provide all of its functionality on top of (and including) the runtime system, in contrast to some other applications where functionality is typically hard coded and an android application can be developed with it.
Opera has launched a browser, you can download the android application here. I like opera an all but come one, Google has just launched the new Chrome browser so I don’t think opera mini is even going to get a look in on this. Its worth a test though and here is a screenshot of the keen:
Here is a great Android application. It allows streaming of multimedia on your home pc or server through to your Android mobile phone. At the moment it is only working with music but I’m sure that will soon be sorted, either that or Orb will come out with a much better application like that have with the iphone.
Another winner of the android developer challenge is the Android GoCart application. No, it’s not for tracking gocarts, its actually a shopping application, quite similar to Compare Everywhere. GoCart allows users to scan barcodes which return prices for it at stores near you, this is pretty sweet actually.
